E is for Egg

I guess I am kind of a mean mom. I had to choose if I was going to have Madi do one or two or no years of preschool and I chose that she would probablly only do one. I debated back and forth and finally decided that dance class was a good social outlet for her and that I would try really hard to do some kind of educational activity with her at least once a week. So we called our friend Sara and I asked her mother if on Tuesdays Sara could come over for a little bit to play with Madi and I would try and do some kind of activity with the girls. ( I thought that by knowing that Sara was coming it would force me to have to plan!!) So far it has worked out really well. Madi loves playing with Sara and I am seeing her take more of an interest in the alphabet. However every day Madi still asks me when does she get to go to "real" school!

You are an awesome mom! I firmly believe that preschoolers need to be playing in the mud and socializing, not doing calculus. One thing I have learned after 4 kids is that they all catch up. Those that are early readers aren't any farther along than their class mates by 3rd grade. That's actually a fact. So you are the perfect mom, keep the eggs, mud, feathers, paint and Sara coming!!!
Hey, I found your blog! And I don't think you are a mean mom at all. I homeschool mine. Is that mean? I don't think so. Although I never thought of doing it until my oldest was just about to start Kindergarten. What a surprise it was for her when I told her. She was sad at first but I believe she will get a better education at home. And she loves it now. Madi just needs to learn through play right now. I agree with Bobbi. Even with Kayla who is first grade age, we mostly play it by ear and just go by her interests. Oddly enough she reads really well and does math....all her idea. And she's learning history and other things through books and such. Anyway, it's a lot of fun! Sorry for the long post.
Your kids are adorable by the way. I think Madi looks just like you and Max looks like your brother Jeff.
I had the same decision with Belle. I was really worried and stressing out that she wasn't going to preschool and then I thought.....She is going to go to school for a LONG time so why not let her just play this year. That is a great idea and I am trying to do the same thing. It is going good right now but things might be a little different when we have the new baby!
